Film: Les Hiddins Documentaries

April 8, 2010

Les Hiddins is a retired australian army major who gathers and publishes information on the australian bush, especially on how to live off the land. He’s best known for the TV shows Bush Tucker Man and Bush Tucker Man – Stories of Survival.

  • The Bush Tucker Man is contrasting with today’s survival shows quite a lot. You won’t see Les Hiddins pretending to be in a life threatening situation or drinking his own urine just to get the ratings up. On the contrary, he will often praise technology as an extremely valuable asset on trips in remote areas and will stress the importance of thorough preparations. His work in the australian bush is presented with a focus on nature and its beauty. A great show which is very relaxing and captivating, without the loudness of today’s TV.
  • Stories of Survival series consists of 8 episodes about people who ended up fighting for their lives in the australian bush and the surrounding areas (Tasmania).

Apparently both shows (and many other great documentaries) are available on the ABC Shop.
