Games: Lock On Modern Air Combat Flaming Cliffs gets upgraded

April 1, 2010

Aviation sim lovers have finally something to talk about: Flaming Cliffs 2 was released in March 2010. This is no joke either!

“LockOn: Flaming Cliffs 2 is a further evolution of LockOn: Flaming Cliffs. In Flaming Cliffs 2, all of the player-controlled aircraft available in Flaming Cliffs have been transferred to the virtual environment created for the Digital Combat Simulator series, started with DCS: Black Shark. Flaming Cliffs 2 is a PC-based combat flight simulation of the following modern combat aircraft: Su-27, Su-33, Su-25, Su-25T, MiG-29, MiG-29S, F-15C, A-10A. The geographical territory modeled encompasses the region of the western Caucasus mountains from Kuban to Georgia.”

All the new features aside – which aren’t that obvious, altough there are enhancements in some areas of the game – this upgrade costs around 30$ and apparently there is no discount for those who already own the previous Lock On versions. This happens after FC2 was originally price tagged at 15$, but the developing efforts went beyond what was initially estimated. Anyway, to me the price seems a bit steep… for an upgrade.

Update: FC2 actually requires either Lock On or FC1 installed in order to run. It is a stand alone game in any other way, meaning that you can run the old and the new game independently from eachother. The new map does not include the old map, therefore old missions are unplayable.
